We are currently on a tour with Hong and his driver Thain – they are part of a group called The Easy Riders based in Dalat that take tourists on tours on motorbikes around Vietnam, but we wanted a car! So we have a lovely 4 wheel drive air-con vehicle with plenty of room. We have been on the road 3 days – right in to the central highlands of Vietnam. We reached Dalat last Monday after a 7 and a half hour bus drive from Saigon. We stayed 2 nights in Dalat before heading off up country. Below are some images from Dalat including The Crazy House.
Still lots of motorbikes and mopeds in Dalat – they start learning early!
The Crazy House is designed by the female architect Hang Viet Nga; this is her monument to her architectural philosophy of dreams, fantasy, and nature. The buildings are ferro concrete (also used to make boats and swimming pools), shaped like a huge tree with tunnels travelling through the trunks. Inside those trunks are rooms – small suites like a hotel (they can be booked) – and each one is different; Kangaroo room, Ant room, termite room, Eagle room and so on. Part Gaudi, part Disney – it is a fabulous place to visit and indulge childish fantasy running up and down he steps and through winding weird corridors.
